Even if DamonPS2 try to steal more code to improve, I doubt it would run better that this new emulator. Honestly, I don't like the idea of an open source emulator progressively becoming closed source, even if it's mostly legal and to stop code theft.ĭamonPS2 is a shitty emulator that will be forgotten after AetherSX2's release. They have not (especially since one of the contributors is Cisco via a library PCSX2 merged.) I didn't know PCSX2 was being relicensed (wouldn't that require the permission of the 90% contributors like Dolphin? Or to contribute you had to give up ownership?). but didn't reach out to the orgs that help with license violations. They also seem to have a bone to pick with the community for not doing more about DamonPS2's license violations. They seem to think that GPLv3 and LGPLv3 both have a linking exemption, that GPL condoms are fine (based on an MBA's linkedin blog post that has five likes.), and that GPL condoms would apply to them even though they openly merged GPLv3 code in and did not attempt to use a GPL condom. They're using PCSX2, which some members of the PCSX2 team are now treating as being LGPLv3 (to avoid Damon getting access to some new code by keeping it proprietary) despite confirming that they have included and continue to include GPLv3 libraries, which means that it is GPLv3. strange choice of license, since it was made to combine it with closed code.Does that mean AetherSX2 is going to be closed source? On which emulator it's based? They're using LGPL code.
